Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has just debuted its first 5G handset, the MIX3 model smartphone during the Mobile World Congress 2019 currently held in Barcelona, Spain.

The company which will be pricing the 5G wireless technology geared smartphone at USD 680 each hopes to be able to take the lead in the sector, something it has been unable to do during the 3G and 4G market due to its relatively late entry into the sector.

The new 5G technology has the potential to spur development in all industrial chains by allowing all non-in-person communications to flow through a single technology system, greatly speeding up processing times.

Because of this, time is required for companies to figure out what consumers need in a new 5G environment as 4G and 5G will continue to co-exist for an extended period of time.

In China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology already has plans to promote the new technology as well as commercial plans for all three major carriers. The country had initiated its second phase of testing of the new network in 2017, before moving up to large-scale trials last year.

It is expected that China will complete building of its 5G network and put it to commercial use by 2020.
