Blood is needed more than anything else when a car accident or an emergency situation occurs. According to a report from the Department of Heath, the Philippines needs 1 million units of blood every year, which can save the lives of hundreds of people. However, there is still a long way to go to maintain a stable blood supply. The sale of blood by private hospitals and a lack of public awareness on the importance of blood donation are pointed out as problems to be solved. Meanwhile, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation held a massive blood drive, which attracted the attention of many people.

From the month of June to July, the WeLoveU Foundation chapters all over the world conducted a massive relay blood drive campaign, which started in South Korea, where the foundation was founded by Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah. The blood drive relay was also conducted in various parts of the United Staes, Europe, Peru, Mongolia, Singapore, and in many other countries.

In the Philippines, the blood drive was held simultaneously on July 28 at the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City, Philippine Red Cross National Headquarters in Mandaluyong City, Davao City, Cebu and in other parts of the Philippines. A total of more than 2,000 participants attended the blood drive in their respective areas.

In the Red Cross Headquarters in EDSA corner Boni ave., 600 participants gathered from Mandaluyong City, Las Piñas City, Manila, Pasig City, Makati City, and Parañaque City. Almost 200 donors were able to donate blood on that day.

Ms. Jennica Nadine Villanueva, a nurse of Philippine Red Cross said, “We are very thankful to the WeLoveU Foundation for a very successful blood drive. We are looking forward to a long term partnership with them.”

Jennifer Sabado, a member of the WeLoveU, smiled brightly while donating blood and said, “I want to save lives.”

Catherine Anecito, another member of the WeLoveU, expressed her overwhelming emotion, “I really want to donate blood today to share the love of a mother that WeLoveU has.”

The head of the Mandaluyong Chapter of WeLoveU Foundation emphasized, “Blood is a very important commodity for life. But it is something that we can never maker, but rather it’s something that we can only share.”

The WeLoveU conducts three major campaigns—Saving the Earth, Saving Lives, and Saving Humanity, and also carries out activities such as strengthening community participatory governance and building global networks. As part of these activities, the WeLoveU held the Save the World Global Forum 2019 in Korea, where its headquarters is located, around the end of May. The Chief of the UN DGC Web Services Section and Digital Solutions and Support Unit, government officers, experts, and NGOs from 20 countries, including the United States, Honduras, Ecuador, and Chile, attended the forum and sought ways to raise awareness about blood donation and developed action plans. The WeLoveU also took the initiative in building global networks for saving lives sustainably, by signing MOUs with six organizations from five countries. Moreover, the WeLoveU carries out the New Life Family Walkathon, which makes its 20th anniversary this year, and the Clean WORLD Movement all around the world. So, the WeLoveU further accelerates global humanitarian efforts.
