ABS-CBN's pioneering DTT service sells 7M units in PH since its launch in 2015

ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading entertainment and media company, has sold seven million boxes of its pioneering digital terrestrial television (DTT) product branded as ABS-CBN TVplus, as of February 2019 or four years since its launch in February 2015.

The robust sales has been steadily growing in the past years as more and more Filipinos patronize the first DTT product in the Philippines that gives viewers a better viewing experience with clear video, crisp audio, and premium channels.

Based on Kantar Media’s Q4 2018 report of DTT households nationwide, ABS-CBN TVplus exclusive channels CineMo, an all-day entertainment channel, and YeY, an all-day children’s channel, have kept their spot as the third and fourth most watched channels, respectively.

Meanwhile, after being launched as one of the new TVplus channels last year, Jeepney TV, which airs timeless and hit ABS-CBN local programs, claimed the fifth spot followed by Movie Central, the first all-English movie channel on digital free TV, on the sixth spot. Asianovela Channel, the first and only channel on digital free TV that airs uncut Asian dramas and movies, ranked eighth on the list.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN TVplus’ pay-per-view channel KBO, which is now open to all networks, has attracted 1.2M unique TVplus customers to register using the service.

ABS-CBN, which is rapidly transitioning into an agile digital company, is the first media and entertainment company in the Philippines to make the historic switch from analog to digital terrestrial television to transform the TV viewing experience of Filipinos.

Based on the Kantar Media establishment survey last August 2018, 72% of non-cabled homes in the capital region, Metro Manila, have an ABS-CBN TVplus box, versus 55% in August 2017. The number of non-cabled homes with a TVplus box also increased in Mega Manila to 65% from 44%, while those in the suburbs grew to 57% from 33% in the same period last year.

ABS-CBN TVplus also continues to expand its signal coverage areas as part of its mission to lead the Philippines’ migration from analog to digital broadcast by 2023.

In November 2018, ABS-CBN TVplus added the province of Batangas as its 16th signal coverage area in the Philippines.

More content choices were offered to TVplus consumers in 2018 with the introduction of five additional ABS-CBN TVplus channels, which include, on top of Jeepney TV, Movie Central, and Asianovela Channel, the music channel MYX, and the home TV shopping channel, O Shopping.
